auto pics

The new Scion is a fun vehicle and gets 35 mpg.
I got it used, long story, but it sure is fun.

The cab corners and the little bit of wheel well rust are the worst things on the truck.

Beach Tday two

Ray wanted Jane to take a picture of us, and this is what we came up with. Weather at the time the picture was taken, 70 degrees, wind gusting to 25 kts, nothing but high cirrus above.
Reflections
Happy chefs pausing from the low country boil with little neck clams.

The local seafood man had this pricelist, but it was noted verbally that it was 10% off for locals.

Eagles

A pair of eagles were hanging around in the pine trees when I went out to check the air, and try out something I had read in a photo magazine.

They took off and came back in a few minutes with one holding a fish in the beak and the other following.

Here the one following came close enough that I caught it in flight.

Must be a great place to live if eagles live here.

Beach Thanksgiving

The beach from the deck of the Blue Parrot the day before Thanksgiving. The wind was blowing 20kts and gusting, and the temp was around 40 degrees. It warmed up for
Thanksgiving Day.
Water Street in Apalachicola still has a few fishing boats docked, but it is nothing like the bustle in days passed.
This picture attempted to catch the fact that the building is leaning, but due to me standing on the ground with the lens that I had, it did not bring out the difference between the light pole (plumb) and the building (leaning by a few degrees).

This is the chapel at Berry College where we saw Patrick get married. It is a lovely stone building at the end of a long drive into the Berry College campus.
Clouds are always interesting to watch, as weather or as the simple/complex patterns that that they create on the sky and in the mind.

back home

Well, it took a week to get back to another post. We did 5000 miles on the trip, and got back on Sunday. Back to work, and busy.
These pictures were taken in the Caymans.

Resting at Largo

We have had some peaceful time here this year. No hurricanes, and hot weather which makes the AC more appealing.

We went down to Key West yesterday. The keys had a lot of weather this year. Three hurricanes left a lot of debris and cleared a lot of vegetation. This revealed how many houses are out really out there. Not many people were sharing the keys with us. The economy must be taking a hit down here.

This dog was catching a ride. J took the picture through the windshield.

We were passing a building on Duval street in Key West when we heard a voice saying "Hello, Hello" After looking for a while, we discovered the voice coming from this Macaw on the second story porch overlooking the street. The bird is probably 3 feet from head to tail.

This kind of smile is what you get when you take some time and get away.
These Ibis give the wires a different look for a midwestern eye. I don't know if it is the longer legs, the curved bills, or the white bodies.

Key Largo

We stay in the unit on the upper right. The building has four units in it. The pool and hottub are to the right in a common courtyard. We are about a half mile from the Florida Straights here in Key Largo.

We went down to the local fish market and got a big chunk of grouper, and these lobsters were waiting for someone else. The lady working there, unfurled the tails so we could see them better. These are the clawless Caribbean lobster, like the ones that we handled when we were diving. The colors are better when they are not filtered by 30 feet of water.

Wright Brothers Memorial

The amazing thing is how short they flew in comparison to how I might have pictured it. That and the fact that a hundred years later there is an airport on the grounds where the runway is about twice as long as the distance that was flown.

The road is not far away, and the number of businesses and people has grown like a virus compared to what was here only a hundred years ago.

The hill has a gentle slope path on one side, but the path on this side was as steep as the hill in our back yard. Took some work to get to the top.

Williamsburg and NC

Colonial Williamsburg was different than we expected.

It was old and interesting, and detailed.
The people were in period costume, and the history was abundant.
It is a special place.
After we left and went to Jamestown, the oldest colony, we took the free ferry to Scotland, Virginia that is. And stayed the night on the Outer Banks. On to the the Wright Brothers.
